Flooding Update - 27th September, 12.30pm
Throughout the week I have been in close contact with the relevant authorities. This includes Central Bedfordshire Council, Bedford Borough Council, National Highways and Anglian Water, all of whom have different responsibilities and roles in the response.
I have also sought assurances from the Flooding Minister and the Environment Agency. And I have requested briefings about the Government’s involvement and support.
As this is an ongoing situation, I will have further such conversations until the flooding has eased.
There is understandably a great deal of frustration about the continued closure of A421, and I have been asking National Highways about what more can be done to safely speed up the re-opening of this vital road.
Flooding has been widespread and it is not possible for me to get out to every area of the constituency affected. However, over the past few days, I have visited some areas at the request of residents to listen to their experiences and to understand the issues they have faced.
I have also set up a local survey which you can take part in below where you are able to share your experiences of the local response to flooding across Mid Bedfordshire. Once the situation has eased, I will publish a report and share this with the relevant authorities to ensure lessons are learned.
Please be assured that while Members of Parliament do not have powers to respond directly to flooding, I will continue to do all I can to support the authorities, and I will continue to raise your concerns.
If a flood is posing a danger to life or injury, contact The Fire and Rescue Service on 999.
