Mid Bedfordshire MP Blake Stephenson is pressing Network Rail to make long-awaited progress to deliver step-free access to Flitwick railway station.
Plans were initially announced in January 2023 but progress has been slow and there appears to be no indication of a start date or provision of a project plan.
Local MP Blake Stephenson has written the CEO of Network Rail urging them to provide him with a start date for the scheme after working closely with Flitwick ward councillor Ian Adams who has been working on the campaign for some time.
Blake Stephenson MP said: “People with disabilities should not have to face difficulties accessing public transport and it’s frustrating Flitwick has been waiting so long for step-free access.
“I’m grateful to ward councillors Ian Adams and Heather Townsend for the work they have done to try and get this moving so far and I also want to recognise all the local residents who have been campaigning for this for many years, including the Step Free Access group.
“I will continue to stand up for people with disabilities and push the Government and Network Rail to ensure step-free access is delivered at Flitwick train station.
Blake has also submitted a question to the Government to get answers on the work the Department of Transport is doing to ensure all stations across the country have step-free access.
Councillor Ian Adams commented: "Local people worked hard to get this improved access agreed and the Government mustn’t let it slip."
