Blake Stephenson, the MP for Mid Bedfordshire, is reminding eligible across the constituency to book their free flu jab as winter approaches.
For most healthy people, flu is an unpleasant but usually self-limiting disease with recovery generally within a week, but for some groups there is a higher risk of serious illness.
That's why certain groups are prioritised for the free flu jab, with the previous Government introducing jabs for secondary school students last year.
Eligible groups include:
- Everyone aged 65 years and over
- Individuals under 65 with certain medical conditions, including children and babies over 6 months of age
- All pregnant women
- All children aged 2 and 3 years (provided they were aged 2 or 3 on 31 August 2024)
- All primary school children
- Some secondary school children (Years 7 to 11)
- Care home residents
- Carers
- Those living with people who are immunocompromised
- Frontline health and social care workers
Blake Stephenson MP said: "Most people recover from flu within a week, but it can cause serious illness for certain at-risk groups so I'm encouraging everybody eligible to book your free flu jab as soon as possible.
"The flu jab is available to book now for eligible groups and it's best to have your flu vaccination in the autumn or early winter before flu rates increase."
