Blake Stephenson, the MP for Mid Bedfordshire, is encouraging residents to vote for Ridgmont in the World Cup Of Stations competition.
Ridgmont Station is up against Northampton, Nottingham and Belper in the East Midlands category of the contest run by the Rail Delivery Group.
Voting is open now, but the East Midlands region is one of a number of categories where voting will begin tomorrow (15th October). Voting will only be open for one day so getting your vote in early is important.
The winner of the East Midlands group will go through to the semi-final where they will be up against the winners of the West Midlands group, the North East group and the Yorkshire & Humberside Group.
This year’s focus of the contest is on the businesses that make stations vital community hubs, driving local economies, so local MP Blake Stephenson headed down to Ridgmont Station to meet with local volunteers and Stephen Sleight from the Marston Vale Community Rail Partnership at the station's heritage centre and tea room.
“I’m determined to make sure we celebrate Bedfordshire’s heritage and beauty to really put us on the map as a tourism destination and the World Cup of Stations is a fantastic opportunity to do just that for Ridgmont.
“Local railway stations are vital to local communities and with its picturesque surroundings and beautiful Heritage Centre and Tea Room, I encourage everybody to show their support for Ridgmont Station in the competition.
“And with ongoing £1 ticket promotion along the Marston Vale Lane, it’s the perfect time to head down to Ridgmont yourself and explore the route.”
