Local MP Blake Stephenson is encouraging pensioners across Mid Bedfordshire to check if they are eligible to claim Pension Credit to provide a boost after the Labour Government cut Winter Fuel Payments.
Blake has been campaigning against the Government's decision to remove universal access to Winter Fuel Payment for pensioners and is concerned about the impact this will have on pensioners throughout his constituency.
Pension Credit provides extra money to help with living costs if you’re over State Pension age and on a low income and is worth an average income boost of around £3,900/year. It can also help with housing costs such as ground rent or service charges.
If you receive Pension Credit it will also re-open access to Winter Fuel Payments.
Blake Stephenson, the MP for Mid Bedfordshire, said: "I'm still shocked and disappointed by the Government's decision to cut Winter Fuel Payments and remain concerned pensioners may face the choice between heating or eating this winter.
"That's why I'm encouraging all pensioners to check if you are eligible for Pension Credit to help provide a vital boost to your income. If you're friends or family with a pensioner please do help them check their eligibility."
