Local MP Blake Stephenson is continuing to stand up for pensioners across Mid Bedfordshire by holding the Labour Government to account on their Winter Fuel Payment cuts.
Blake recently quizzed Ministers on the impact of the policy decision and the Government has now admitted there have been 6.6% more pensioner hospitalisations across November and December 2024/25 than there was in 2023/24.
This follows a question Blake put to the Government on the amount of pensioners who have lost their Winter Fuel Payments this summer. The Government confirmed this was an estimated 9.2 million pensioners, but that between the announcement to cut Winter Fuel Payments and 11th November, there were just 150,000 Pension Credit claims.
The Government also admitted to local MP Blake that they do not have an estimate of the value of the extra Pension Credit claims so there is no way to know the impact of the extra costs on the savings from removing Winter Fuel Payments from pensioners.
Conservative MP Blake is also currently running a survey on Winter Fuel Payments to understand the impact on pensioners across Mid Bedfordshire. You can take part in the survey below.
